Advani may not contest LS poll

Bharatiya Janata Party president Lal Kishinchand Advani today made it clear that he was not inclined to contest the mid-term election as he wanted to devote himself 'full time' to the party's campaign.

''The realignment of the political forces was contributing to the certainty of the BJP's victory,'' Advani said.

Welcoming West Bengal Congress leader Mamata Banerjee's statement that the BJP was not an 'untouchable', he said ''our relationship would develop only if she completely snaps her ties with the Congress''.

Asked if the BJP still held Ayodhya as its main electoral plank, the BJP chief said the Ram Janambhoomi had never been a religious issue for the party. ''It was meant to expose the pseudo-secularism of the Congress and other parties. Today, it is not an issue as it was six years ago. Now only the erection of a building is to take place there (at the disputed site in Ayodhya).'' He also claimed that that Kashi and Mathura had never been on the party's agenda.
