Withdraw support to Vaghela, Congress MLAs tell high command
Senior Congress leaders in Gujarat have started hectic parleys to consider the legislature party's demand for withdrawing support to the nine-month-old Shankarsinh Vaghela government.
Addressing the media on Thursday, Congress Legislature Party leader Amarsinh Chaudhary said a majority of the CLP members were against continuing support to Vaghela.
Chaudhary assailed Vaghela for not consulting Congress
leaders regarding changes brought about in the Urban Land Ceiling
Act, which was stayed by the Gujarat high court on Wednesday.
Though Vaghela agreed to consult the Congress before taking any major decision, he seems to be taking things lightly, the CLP leader said.
During his nine-month rule, Vaghela made a series of announcements without understanding their financial and legal implications. This has put the Congress party in an embarrassing position, he said.
Chaudhary said the CLP demand was a serious warning to the state government and the chief minister should not take it lightly.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prabodh Raval said a meeting of senior leaders of the party would be convened in a couple of days to take stock of the situation and to chalk out future strategy.
