What the prime minister told the PresidentIn his resignation letter to the President, Prime Minister I K Gujral said, ''for totally unjustifiable reasons, the Congress (I) has been asking me to drop the three DMK ministers from my government.'' ''In my communication to the Congress president, I have said it is unfair and unethical to tarnish the fair name of the party only because of the Jain Commission's interim report without any substantiated data as chosen to blame the party and I say with sadness, the entire Tamil people.'' "While this is more acceptable to me, members of the Congress party have not allowed Parliament to function and discharge its constitutional duty.'' ''Assigning high priority to national interests, I have come to the conclusion that I should submit my resignation to you. My council of ministers and I hereby submit our resignations.'' |
