Parikh sworn in as Gujarat CM
A 16-member, two-tier Rashtriya Janata Party ministry headed by Dilip Parikh was sworn in on Tuesday morning, bringing to an end a week-long political crisis in the state.
The ministry, which is supported by the Congress, has included
three Independent MLAs for the first time.
Governor Krishnapal Singh administered the oath of office
and secrecy to the ministers.
Soon after the swearing in ceremony, a beaming Parikh said
he would take a vote of confidence on the floor of the
assembly on or before November 13 as directed by the
governor.
Parikh said the ministry would be expanded after the trust vote. He said the portfolios of all the ministers will remain unchanged.
The chief minister said he would set up a coordination committee with the Congress to establish better rapport.
Welcoming the suggestion, state Congress president C D Patel ruled out his party's participation in the ministry.
The ministry has 10 cabinet ministers -- Atmaram Patel, Babubhai Shah, C K Raulji, Jashabhai Barad, Vitthalbhai Radadia, Raghavji Patel, Madhubhai Thakor, Ranjitsinh Zala, V D Zala and Bhagubhai Patel -- and five ministers of state -- Ramanbhai Chaudhary, Girish Parmar (from the RJP), Ushmangani Devadiwala, Upendrasinh Gohil and Pabubha Manek (all independents)
Anil Joshiara, Umesh Rajyaguru and Mansinh Chauhan who
were cabinet ministers in the Shankarsinh Vaghela
ministry have not been included.
The RJP's Raman Chaudhary is the new face in the ministry along with the three independents.
This is the fourth ministry to be installed in Gujarat since March 1995.
