"The strike has been deferred indefinately... They (the management) will be augmenting the staff through promotion within the next three-four months," All India State Bank Officers' Federations' president T N Goel told PTI.
Meanwhile, SBI in a statement said the branches of the bank will function as usual on April 8-9, as the proposed strike on these two days has been withdrawn.
The SBI officers had decided to go on a two-day strike to press for recruitment of officers and revision of pay scales.
Citing reasons for the strike, Goel had said there is a shortage of 7,000-8,000 officers across the country and if the new branches are taken into account, then the figure will cross 10,000.
However, today he said the bank management has agreed that the interest of the employees will be taken care of through internal promotion and direct recruitment.
When asked on the revision of pay scales, Goel said the management has assured that appropriate steps will be taken after the formation of a new government at the Centre.
