The bank had a net profit of Rs 471.11 crore (Rs 4.71 billion) in the March quarter of FY'08, it said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The total income rose to Rs 5,385.52 crore (Rs 53.85 billion) during the March quarter, from Rs 3,505.52 crore (Rs 35.05 billion) in the year-ago period.
Last year, the bank had merged Centurion Bank of Punjab with itself. Hence, the results for the quarter and fiscal are not comparable with that of the year-ago period, it stated.
The board has declared a 100 per cent dividend for the equity shareholders at the rate of Rs 10 a share, for the fiscal year ended March 31.
For the financial year ended March 2009, HDFC Bank reported a net profit of Rs 2,244.95 crore (Rs 22.44 billion). It had a net profit of Rs 1,590.18 crore (Rs 15.90 billion) in FY'08.
The bank's interest income for the quarter stood at Rs 4,250.83 crore, while the interest expenditure was at Rs 2,398.83 crore (Rs 23.98 billion).
The total income rose to Rs 19,622.88 crore (Rs 196.22 billion) in FY'09, from Rs 12,398.15 crore (Rs 123.98 billion) in the last fiscal.
