Addressing the media on Tuesday, Wipro BPO Solutions vice-president and head Ashutosh Vaidya said the expansion was necessary as the BPO business was seeing a momentum in the last few months. With this, the total headcount at the Hyderabad unit would touch 4,150.
The company would recruit undergraduates and graduates from Tier II and III cities for its customer support and technical help desk segments. On an average, the salaries for the freshers would range between Rs 8,000 and Rs 12,000 a month.
Vaidya said building and other facilities for its BPO centre in Visakhapatnam were in place, and the company was getting ready to open the centre.
Wipro BPO, which started its operations in 2001-02 with 2,500 employees and a turnover of $11 million (Rs 55 crore), had over 21,000 employees with a turnover of $290 million (Rs 2,250 crore) in 2007-08.
