And old man is counting his moneyIn a gesture towards pensioners over the age of 80, the government has decided to accept voters' ID cards as age proof for getting the post-retirement benefit.

The government had earlier stipulated documents such as PAN card, matriculation certificate, passport, central government health scheme card and driving licence as proofs of age for old pensioners.

Considering the difficulty in producing any of such documents as proof of age by the pensioners, particularly those living in rural areas, it has been decided that voters' ID card may also be accepted as the proof of date of birth for payment of pension on completion of 80 years, the ministry of personnel said in an order.

However, pensioners/family pensioners will have to certify that he/she is not a matriculate and also have to give an undertaking that he/she does not posses any of the documents as earlier stipulated.
