US flag and the Statue of LibertyIf you want to get the coveted US 'green card' quickly, the EB-5 programme launched by the Obama Administration is just what you are looking for.

The important criterion that you will have to meet for this is that you have to be an investor in the American economy.

The EB-5 programme entitles investors -- who put in $1 million into regional centre real estate projects and create at least 10 jobs in the US -- and their families to green cards.

The regional centres are diversified funds or private business development projects that allow investors to put in their money in lieu of which they buy a small ownership interest.

According to the EB-5 rules, in case the investors put money into a business in a backward area, the investment needed is even lower at $500,000, says a media report.

The EB-5 programme has already struck a chord with Gujarati hospitality entrepreneurs, who are keen on setting up shop in the US. Some Gujarati hoteliers have strong family links in the US.

Experts are seeing a growing interest in the EB-5 category of visas. For those who intend to move to the US to run a motel or a store there, the reduced property prices are a big attraction.
