PM arrives in Copenhagen, to meet Wen

December 18, 2009 02:57 IST

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived at Copenhagen on Friday morning to participate in the concluding session of the Climate Summit amid a ray of hope for a political statement on combating climate change.

Singh was received in this Denmark capital by Indian Ambassador Yogesh Gupta. Singh's departure from New Delhi was delayed by three hours after the special aircraft scheduled to carry him here was hit by a hydraulic trolley, forcing him to opt for another aircraft.

The prime minister is expected to meet Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao tomorrow before he heads for the informal high-level event convened by Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.

Besides Singh and Wen, around 110 world leaders, including US President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, will attend the concluding session of the 12-day Climate Summit.

The 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) is expected to issue a short communique stressing the urgency to tackle the menace of climate change.
