Colgate's Aurangabad factory hit by workers' strike

December 28, 2009 17:45 IST

ColgateFMCG player Colgate PalmoliveĀ said on Monday production at its Aurangabad factory has been disrupted as workers have gone on strike since Saturday.

"The workmen in our Aurangabad toothpowder factory have gone on strike effective December 26, primarily on the ground that the management should reinstate the services of two workmen, who were dismissed on disciplinary grounds. . .," the company said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Colgate Palmolive, which sells oral and personal care products under the Colgate brand, said the ongoing strike will not have any impact on its business as it has made alternate arrangements to tackle it.

The disruption of work at the Aurangabad factory is unlikely to impact the company's toothpowder business as it has enough stocks and an alternate arrangement has been made to augment production, it added.

The company said the two workers were dismissed after following 'due process of law and whose matters are now subjudice before high court/labour court."

It also said the management and the workers union were in advanced stage of negotiations over the workmen charter and were to reach an amicable settlement when the workers resorted to strike.
