Railway recruitment policy to be reviewed

Minister of railways Mamata Banerjee said that the recruitment policy and the functioning of Railway Recruitment Boards would be reviewed shortly.

Presenting the Railway Budget 2009-10 in the Lok Sabha on Friday, she announced the launching of special recruitment drive to wipe out backlog in filling up the vacancies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The minister also announced the forming of a new scheme to give better representation of minorities, women and economically backward classes in the recruitments for the Indian Railways.

She said that a special recruitment drive would also be launched for filling up of vacancies against Physically Handicapped Quota. Sports-people would also get their share in recruitment, she added.-- PIB
