Kids embracing digital world: TCS survey

A new survey of school children by IT major TCS has found that the next generation is embracing digital world as true digital natives and shifting their academic and social life online.

The survey conducted across 14,000 high school children in 12 cities found that many of them aspire to go abroad for studies but to eventually come back and work in India.

The survey showed "the web 2.0 generation are digital natives, global in terms of aspirations and outlook and increasingly optimistic about India's economic future," a company press note said.

CEO and managing director of TCS, S Ramadorai, said, "the company plans to use some of the findings of the study to understand the next generation better and it will help us not just find the best potential employees but also guide us to engage with them more effectively."

He said the company has a robust outreach programme and already reached 700,000 students with plans to take the number to 1 million.

The survey conducted among English medium schools found that as many as 46 per cent of the students use online sources to access news and IT and engineering remain overwhelming popular career choices. While the United States and the United Kingdom top the list of international destinations for high studies.
