Bank of Maharashtra to hire 600

Pune-based Bank of Maharashtra is planning to hire 600 people across India during the current financial year for it proposed 100 branches, said B K Mahajan, general manager-HRM, Bank of Maharastra.

The bank has made a budgetary provision of Rs 50-60 crore (Rs 500-600 million) for the proposed branches. Of the total new branches to be opened, 50 per cent would be in the northern region.

According to Mahajan, "The Chandigarh region comprising Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Jammu & Kashmir registered a business of Rs 1,904 crore (Rs 190.4 billion) as on March 31, 2009. Of this, deposits stood at Rs 600 crore (Rs 6 billion) and advances Rs 1,304 crore (Rs 130.4 billion)."

Mahajan said the bank was targeting to achieve a business of Rs 3,000 crore (Rs 30 billion) by the end of this financial year. It recently opened a branch in Chandigarh taking the total number of branches to 1,428.
