At a time when companies are rightsizing their employee strengths due to the downturn, temporary staffing is gaining momentum.

According to various manpower outsourcing firms in Chandigarh, more and more companies are resorting to temporary staffing.

Speaking to Business Standard, Rakesh Joshi, regional manager -- operations, IKYA Staffing Solutions, said permanent staffing had seen a slow growth in the recessionary phase.

The Bangalore-headquartered company offers staffing and recruitment solutions to its clients that include PepsiCo, LG India, Videocon and Infosys.

Joshi said companies were not only going for temporary staffing in the junior level recruitments, a few of them were also opting for temporary staffing in middle management.

Sunny Chauhan, consultant, Manpower, another manpower outsourcing firm, agrees.

Manpower Inc offers a range of services for the entire employment and business cycle including permanent, temporary and contract recruitment; employee assessment and selection; training; outplacement; outsourcing and consulting.

He said during slowdown when a company was not sure how long it would want to retain the employee, temporary staffing provided a good alternative.
