Apollo drops Wockhardt buyout plans

June 17, 2009 18:04 IST

Apollo Hospitals has dropped plans to buy Wockhardt hospitals.

Wockhardt Hospitals offered a basket of hospitals for sale in Bangalore, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Speaking on the sidelines of a press conference in Kolkata, Preetha Reddy, managing director, Apollo Hospital said, "The evaluation was done and what we felt as a fair valuation for our shareholders and investors did not match, we had to regretfully drop the purchase."

She, however, could not say how many hospitals were put on sale in these cities.

"They offered us a basket of hospitals in three cities- Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata, since we are present in all these cities and our geographical footprint in these regions are pretty strong, so it was not prudent to go forth with the buys," she added.
