ONGC derecognises employee body

June 17, 2009 09:38 IST

ONGC's top management has decided to derecognise the Association of Scientific and Technical Officers with immediate effect for its alleged role in the two-day strike in January.

The top management comprises of the chairman and all the directors, except independent and nominee directors.

ONGC suffered immensely both in terms of production and esteem due to what it termed as a reckless, very irresponsible and an illegal strike, led by the current leadership of ASTO, during January 7-9, according to sources close to the development.

An ONGC spokesperson declined to comment on the issue. However, a senior official confirmed the development, while refusing to give any details.

"Despite the persuasion by the management, the ASTO leadership led an agitation which was detrimental to the interests of officers, ONGC and the nation," sources said.
