AI staff continue to protest against delayed salaries

June 26, 2009 12:24 IST
Continuing with their agitation, Air India [ Images ] employees on Friday staged a sit-in at the New Delhi [ Images ] airport to protest the decision of the airline management to defer payment of their salaries by a fortnight.

"Air India employees across the nation have gone on a sit-in at their respective stations. This is in protest against the management's decision to defer the payment of our

salaries," V J Deka, Regional General Secretary of Aviation Industry Employees Guild (AIEG) told PTI.

Three AI employees unions -- AIEG, Air Corporation Employees Union (ACEU) and Indian Aircraft Technician's Association (IATA) -- had earlier decided to wear black badges from June 22 to 25.

They had said if the management fails to issue salaries on June 30, about 24,000 employees - associated with the three unions -- would boycott duties under the "no pay no work" policy, which is likely to affect the operations of national carrier.
