Tata Motors paid a fine of around Rs 1 lakh (Rs 100,000) to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation authorities on Wednesday for displaying unauthorised advertisements during the much-publicised 'Nano' car launch at Marine Drive in south Mumbai.
The civic body had sent notices to Tata Motors owner Ratan Tata and Parsi Gymkhana officer-bearer P C Cooper for putting up 14 unauthorised hoardings across the venue where the function took place at Marine Drive on Monday.
"They paid fine of Rs 112,986 today (Wednesday). The hoardings were removed immediately on Tuesday and a fine was imposed on both the parties under Section 328 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, for not taking prior permission," said Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Zone I) Kishore Kshirsagar.
The penalty is 12 times more than the actual advertisement cost, he said.
They had taken permission for display of car and not for putting up the advertisements in the vicinity, he said.
The civic body asked them to pay the fine for putting up 14 10x10 feet hoardings outside the sprawling Parsi Gymkhana.
