TCS bags 5-year Volkswagen deal

May 13, 2009 14:49 IST

India's top software exporter Tata Consultancy Services on Wednesday said it has bagged a five-year contract from Volkswagen Group UK Ltd to deliver IT transformation and support services to the vehicle manufacturer.

However, the company has not revealed the financial details of the deal.

According to the deal, TCS will leverage its global delivery network to provide onshore and offshore IT support and transformation services for the Volkswagen group's operations throughout the United Kingdom and across the brands -- Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Volkswagen passenger cars and Volkswagen commercial vehicles, TCS said in a statement.

Volkswagen Group UK is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Europe's largest vehicle manufacturer Volkswagen AG.

TCS would also support the Volkswagen group in its business transformation support programme to meet its aim to "sell more cars, sell more parts, drive down costs".

TCS would support all brands within the group as they move to consolidate and standardise its business platform, enabling mobility of Volkswagen group employees, increased flexibility and cost reduction, it added.

"In this challenging environment, organisations are looking to increase efficiency and flexibility in order to stay competitive.

"By helping Volkswagen group consolidate their IT systems onto a single platform we are not only streamlining their infrastructure but also their wider business processes," TCS vice president and head of Europe A S Lakshminarayanan said.
