Tata Motors on Friday announced a change in leadership with incumbent managing director Ravi Kant taking up the role of non-executive vice-chairman, while P M Telang has been promoted as the managing director of India operations.
"Telang will be India operations managing director and I will be the non-executive vice chairman," Kant told reporters in Mumbai.
Kant, who joined the company in July 2000 as executive director (commercial vehicle business unit), was appointed as managing director on July 29, 2005.
Telang, on the other hand was appointed as executive director (commercial vehicles) of the company on May 18, 2007.
He has played various roles responsible for product development, manufacturing, sales and marketing functions of the strategic business unit of light and small commercial vehicles.
This is second top-level appointment in Tata group companies announced in as many days, as TCS, country's biggest software exporter, said on May 26 that its COO N Chandrasekharan would succeed S Ramadorai as CEO and MD.
