OfficeA high percentage of employees in the US believe there is 'just the right amount' of tension at their workplace, while one-fourth of those surveyed feel there is too much stress at office, a study said.

As per the survey conducted on around 500 working Americans by management consultancy Healthy Companies International, employees seem to accept the need for some tension at their workplace.

"In fact, 41 per cent respondents think there is 'just the right amount' of tension in their place of work," the survey revealed.

But, some workers also complain of stress or anxiety, with 25 per cent respondents reporting too much tension at work, while around 33 per cent indicated that there was almost no tension at their work place.

"Our study suggests most Americans understand a productive workplace has to have a certain level of tension or energy," Healthy Companies chief commercial officer Stephen Parker said.

"Too much tension can certainly hurt employee performance just as too little motivation or engagement spells its own kind of trouble. We are heartened by the results as having just enough anxiety in the workplace could be the turning point for America to begin to regain its competitive edge," Parker added.

The survey further revealed that women were 28 per cent more likely than men to believe there was too much tension at their workplace.

Likewise, men are more likely than women -- 37-29 per cent -- to think there is almost no tension.

Moreover, employees earning between $25,000-50,000 were more likely than those in other salary groups to complain of tension in their workplace.

The survey also revealed that workers with high school education levels or less were more likely to say there is too much tension where they work, while older employees were somewhat unlikely to report that.
