Former BJP president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said that the country was facing an economic crisis due to the alleged mismanagement and wrong policies of the Congress-led UPA government.

"The UPA government has failed to formulate reasonable economic policies to tide over the difficult economic situation facing the country," Singh said. Spiralling prices of essential commodities has made the survival of common man extremely difficult, alleged Singh, who is in the city on a one-day visit. The senior BJP leader said the Centre had failed on all fronts.

"The insensitivity of the UPA regime coupled with economic mismanagement has forced the opposition parties to disrupt Parliament for a week to make the government take a serious note of the existing inflationary environment, Singh said.

During the six years of NDA rule, inflation in primary commodities was only 2.8 per cent and foodgrain prices actually registered a decline of 2.3 per cent. But, inflation rate in food grains is presently above 10 per cent, he said.

The UPA government should stop passing the buck on the issue of price rise and focus on providing effective solution to this mounting problem, he added.
