NokiaNokia said on Friday it will acquire mobile analytics services firm Motally Inc.

The buyout of US-based Motally, a small privately-held company, would help in boosting Nokia's mobile software offerings to developers and publishers.

In recent months, Nokia has been snapping up some small companies and the latest was the buyout in April of MetaCarta Inc, a firm specialising in geographic intelligence solutions.

Without disclosing the financial details, the Finnish cell phone maker in a statement said that the deal is expected to be complete in the third quarter of 2010.

"Motally's mobile analytics service offers in-application tracking and reporting, and is designed to enable developers and publishers to optimise the development of their mobile applications. . .," the statement added.

The service offering of the company would be adapted for Qt, Symbian, Meego and Java developers, among others.

Motally employs a team of eight people. Nokia's Vice President (Media) Marco Argenti said the buyout underpins the company's focus on delivering in-application and mobile web browsing analytics to Ovi's global eco-system of developers and publishers.

"(This would enable) partners to better connect with their customers and optimise and monetise their offering," Argenti noted.

Ovi is Nokia's brand that offers various value-added services for Internet and mobile applications.
