July 07, 2010 10:51 IST

LexusAs many as 1,347 Lexus LS460s will be recalled in the UAE amid fears of faulty valve springs that could lead the engine to stall, the vehicle's distributor in the UAE has confirmed.

"Following close communication with Lexus Japan, we can now confirm that 1,347 selected 2007-2008 model year Lexus LS 460s are affected in the UAE," said Al Futtaim Motors managing director Simon Frith said.

Al Futtaim Motors said that it would contact the affected customers directly to offer them a complimentary replacement of the affected parts.

"Lexus Japan has confirmed that due to possible defective valve springs, there is a small possibility of abnormal engine noise or rough idling. In extremely rare instances, the engine may stall," Frith said.

Last week, Toyota Motor Corp announced that around 270,000 Lexus and Toyota Crown sedans would be recalled worldwide. This the latest in a string of safety concerns that have led to the recall of millions of vehicles globally since last September.

In Saudi Arabia, Toyota's local dealers, Abdul Latif Jameel Import and Distribution, said its campaign 'to replace engine valve springs' will start from August 1 and will involve only Lexus LS460s produced between August, 2006, and August, 2008.
