iPad? Ummm no...it's iPed!

Last updated on: June 01, 2010 17:51 IST

While Apple iPad is not even on sale in China, officially at least, its lookalike -- the iPed -- is doing roaring business in Shenzhen, southern China.

Priced almost a fifth of the Apple gadget, iPed runs on Google's Android operating system.

Pictures of iPed posted on YouTube shows it is even packed in look-alike iPad box.

In a review written on iPed, TECHi says, "the iPed is exactly what you're thinking: a Chinese knock-off."

Last week, Apple and its contract electronics manufacturer Foxconn refused to confirm or deny rumours that the iPad was being made at Foxconn's massive Shenzhen factory, which has been hit by a spate of staff suicides.

Apple, now the largest US technology company by value, said it had sold two million iPads already.

Besides the US, the flat, 10-inch (25-centimetre) iPad went on sale in Australia, Japan, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland.
