Pranab leaves for G-20 meet in Korea

Pranab MukherjeeFinance minister Pranab Mukherjee for South Korea on Wednesday to attend the two-day G-20 ministerial which is expected to discuss the ongoing European financial crisis and other issues.

The meeting of the finance ministers and central bankers of the G-20 countries, a club of developed and developing nations, would also take up issues concerning global economic recovery.

The meeting, being held ahead of the G-20 summit later this month in Toronto, Canada, will also discuss a G-20 framework for a strong, sustainable and balanced growth as well as the need for reforming financial sector regulations.

The Busan ministerial will also discuss the global financial safety nets, energy subsidies, fossil fuel subsidies and financial inclusion.

During the visit, Mukherjee will also hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts, including one with the new chancellor of the British exchequer.

He will also attend a meeting of the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) finance ministers before participating in the G-20 ministerial. Mukherjee would be accompanied by finance secretary Ashok Chawla and other senior officials.
