A meeting called on Tuesday by the government's chief labour commissioner failed to resolve the workers' strike which began on Sunday night at Hyundai Motor India Ltd's factory at Sriperumbudur, near here.
Another meeting is likely on Wednesday.
Sources in the CLC and the union said the management representatives sought time till tomorrow to respond to the demands.
Saying nothing conclusive had come of today's meeting, HMIL spokesman Rajiv Mitra said the workers who were on a sit-in inside the factory premises had been evicted. "We will look at the earliest opportunity to commence production," he said.
Thangapandian, deputy president, Hyundai Motor India Employees Association, said, "The strike will continue till we find a solution".
He added around 250 union representatives were arrested last night by the police and "once they are released today (Tuesday) evening, we will also start a dharna."
He said the company was planning to resume work at the factory without permanent workers. "They are planning to use temporary workers and apprentices."
As already reported, this is the third strike at Hyundai in a year by the HMIEU, which is formally not the recognised union.
It claims majority suport and wants the management to acknowledge this. And, wants the reinstatement of 60 of its members who were dismissed after the previous strike.
Talks to resolve these issues had been on since the earlier strike ended in July last year, but had made little progress.
