Air India, often at the receiving end for one reason or another, on Tuesday got a boost when celluloid icon Amitabh Bachchan praised it after flying on one of its flights to Tamil Nadu.

The Big B, who flew with Air India after a long time, praised not only the airline's on-board service but also the cabin crew, describing them as "polite and efficient."

Writing on Twitter, Bachchan said "I flew Air India after very long...it was really good...efficient, polite, clean and on time!!"

Air India, which reported a loss of Rs 5,500 crore (Rs 55 billion) in FY09, is now in the process of formulating a turnaround plan which involves cost-cutting and revenue-enhancement to bring the airline back into profit.

On Monday, Air India's five-year turnaround plan for financial revival was reviewed at its board meeting. The plan for 2010-14 envisages revenue enhancement and expenditure reduction over different phases.

The government would infuse additional equity of Rs 1,200 crore (Rs 12 billion) into Air India over the next few months and review its performance to decide on the future course, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said earlier this month.
