NREGAJammu and Kashmir government said on Wednesday Rs 102 crore (Rs 1.02 billion) has been spent under the flagship rural job guarantee programme under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Gurantee Act leading to generation of 69 lakh (6.9 million) mandays and providing employment to over two lakh households in the state.

"An amount of Rs 102 crore (Rs 1.02 billion) has been spent under MGNREGA till date resulting in the generation of 69 lakh mandays and employment to 2,05,361 households by taking up 2,022 development works," Rural Development Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said.

Sagar, who chaired a high level meeting of rural development department, said, "We have to ensure that funds earmarked for the current year are utilised to the maximum so that more funds can be projected for the next financial year."

Since the scheme is demand driven there is no dearth of funds and added that the government will ensure that the benefit reached the maximum number of people, he said. Sagar said officers who do not complete their targets would be held responsible.

Meanwhile, an official spokesman said 51 per cent of works have been completed in the 24 forest divisions of the state during the current financial year.
