India's largest car marker Maruti Suzuki has told its dealers to ask customers who have booked the Swift if they wished to upgrade to the new model due next month.

The Delhi-based car maker stopped production of the current generation of Swift last week to make way for the new model.

The Swift is the largest selling premium compact hatchback in India with sales in excess of 150,000 units every year.

The car is available in three fuel variants and two engine options.

In a circular on Monday, the company has asked the dealers

to allow buyers who have booked the Swift to upgrade to the new version.

Price of the new Swift, however, will be kept under wraps till the date the new model is launched formally.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the new Swift may carry a slight premium compared to the existing model priced at Rs 390,000-550,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

"Dealers will contact the consumers who have booked the Swift and aprise them of the offer," said an industry source.

According to an official, the new model will have more features and better comfort than the present generation Swift.

The car will also be roomier, lighter and return better mileage.
