After the successful launch of Swift and A-star, Maruti will unveil a new hatchback called Ritz by mid-May 2009. Suzuki's Ritz, which was showcased at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show, has become popular in other global markets under the name Splash.
While Swift has become the fastest model to attain sales of 300,000 units, A-star is slowly gaining ground.
Maruti Suzuki, India's top carmaker, sells as many as six models in the small car segment: M800, Alto, Wagon-R, Zen Estilo, A-star and Swift. It has a market share of a little over 50 per cent in the small car segment, but the upcoming stringent emission norms and zippy cars from competitors might make the game tougher for Maruti.
