Delayed monsoon and deficient rain have severely affected the kharif crop in India this year.
There is a 20 per cent decline in sowing of the kharif crop, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said at the 25th Annual Conference of Income Tax Chief Commissioners and Director Generals of India in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The country has so far received scattered rainfall, 19 per cent below average, since the beginning of June. Farmers have either dropped or delayed sowing of summer crops due to poor rains.
