While Barack Obama's job as the President of the United States earns him a cool salary of $400,000, his top White House staffers are not doing too badly either.

Some of them earn almost half of the presidential income.

A White House list sent to Congress revealed the salaries of 487 White House office staffers, capped at $172,200, The Chicago Sun Times reports.

Under a requirement in place since 1995, the White House posted the names, titles and salaries of 487 staffers at whitehouse.gov, but did not draw attention to it by announcing it via a press release.

"We make news on our blog all the time," said spokesman Josh Earnest.

The White House added names not mandated by Congress, but did not include the vice president's office or the office of management and budget.

"We're looking at ways we can disclose the salary information of more White House staffers," Earnest said.
