Angry villagers of the Khuti and Gumla districts in Jharkhand are protesting against the transfer of land to steel giant Arcelor Mittal for a proposed steel project.
Arcelor Mittal has identified 11,000 acres of land overlapping the districts of Khuti and Gumla to set up a 12 million tonne steel plant.
The protest by farmers reflects a larger standoff between industry and villagers unwilling to surrender their lands in a country where two-thirds of the population depend on agriculture for a living.
