'Inflation has no impact on the rich'

Last updated on: February 24, 2010 18:19 IST

It's budget time again and, as always, the best comments are expected from somebody who's loosely referred to as the common man: his expectations, his dreams, his concerns make up for wonderful gyaan if only the people who matter listen.

Mohammed, who hails from Kerala, has been working at a grocery shop in Mumbai for the last 25 years.

"The price rise makes a dent in the pockets of the poor only. Inflation has no impact on the rich," he complains about the discrimnatory government policies that work only in the favour of the rich.

"Just because a person is poor will she/he stop consuming sugar? Is it possible? Whatever the budget announcement has it ever help reduce prices of foodgrains that we eat?"

He demands that the prices of essentials that the poor consume should be brought down. "While the prices of goods and commodities rise there is no proportionate increase in the income of the poor people," he laments.
