Domestic automobile sales continue to break record numbers with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers stating that the total vehicle sold in the country during August at 12,63,293 units was the highest-ever achieved in a month.

On the back of the continued robust growth, SIAM said auto sales will exceed the forecast it had made earlier this fiscal.

The overall vehicle sold in the domestic market during August grew by 25.24 per cent from 10,08,712 units in the same month last year. SIAM said the record number in August was driven by best ever monthly sales achieved in passenger cars, passenger vehicles, two-wheelers and multi-utility vehicles segments.

According to the latest study -- India Sales Satisfaction Index -- Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) topped the list of 11 auto-makers, garnering 819 points on a 1,000-point scale.

It was followed by Honda and Skoda, with 816 and 812 points, respectively. Tata Motors found its berth at the bottom.

Volkswagen Polo

The first Polo was effectively a rebadged version of the Audi 50 hatchback launched in August 1974.

The combination of sporty, distinctive design, a high-performance engine that delivers on fuel-efficiency and power alike, and a host of superior features makes it one of the finest cars for India.

The name 'Polo' has been a source of speculation. Some people believed it was a reference to polar winds or the Marco Polo ocean current, in keeping with Volkswagen's penchant for naming its watercooled cars after winds and currents, but many fans insist that it is in fact a correlation to the Golf's name, because 'golf' and 'polo' are both words (in both English and German) for upper-class sports.
