Amazing images of a man-made floating island

An Austrian company has created a man-made floating island, Orsos Island, that combines the mobility of a yacht with the comfort of a house, according to CNN.

It offers six bedrooms spread over three floors and 1,000 square metres - nearly four tennis courts - worth of luxury living space, it says.

The island is the passion project of Hungarian-born entrepreneur Gabor Orsos, a former hotelier who wanted to combine the best features of luxury hotels with the flexibility that a superyacht provides, says CNN.

Measuring 37 metres long, the island can be anchored anywhere in the world its owner fancies, it says.

To boost its green credentials, the designers have incorporated 160 square metres of solar panels on the roof, as wells as wind generators that can produce 28-30 kilowatt hours of power - the average daily consumption of a family household, says CNN.

The price tag for all of this is certainly more than you'd expect to pay for a mainland mansion but, at $6.5 million, it falls well below the average cost of the gigayachts and Caribbean islands currently favored by the fabulously wealthy, it says.

The design phase of the Orsos Island was completed about a month ago; currently the company is in the production preparation phase.

The island doesn't have its own drive engi#8800 for greater destination it's recommended to use a cargo ship; but to nearby locations it can be easily moved by a tow boat.

The island is over 20 metres wide and more than 37 metres in length, which offers excellent potential for a sophisticated and spacious layout. With about 400 m² on each floor, the island offers up to 1,000 m² of living space.

The final price includes one motor boat for six passengers and one for 14 guests.

The current production time is between 18 to 24 months; but the company says it can complete production in eight to 12 months.

With limited capacity, all orders are scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis, depending on a date an order is received and approved.
