If the SUV segment is growing by leaps and bounds, the MPV should not feel ignored as there are some massive changes this UV segment is going to see in a while.

Where Honda is waiting to introduce its new mini-MPV called Mobilio (Codename: 2NH), Nissan after reviving the Dastsun brand will usher in all new Go+ compact MPV.

Both the MPVs were recently unveiled in the Indonesian market and will soon be launched in India to lure the customers.

The similarity between the two in terms of basics begins with the chassis as both Datsun Go+ and Mobilio are built on the hatchback platform.

Where Dastun Go+ has taken inspiration from Datsun Go hatch, the Honda Mobilio hails from the auto unit of the Brio small car.

Datsun Go has not seen the Indian market and will be launched next year. Brio on the other hand, has adapted well to the Indian roads and is one of the sales-churning small cars of the Japanese brand, Honda.

Coming to the looks of Mobilio, the first impression definitely makes you recall the Brio or the Amaze sedan which is again built on Brio’s platform.

The round peg of the small car is definitely redesigned into a square one to suit the needs of an MPV and the difference emerges not at a glance but with a steady look.

On the other hand, Nissan engineers has not brought anything new to the platter; The Go+ MPV is identical to the Go hatchback all the way to the rear wheel.

MPV always come with bulk space and the Mobilio’s wheelbase of 2650mm wheelbase is 245mm wider than the Amaze and overall length is 4390mm.

The roofline has also been extended for the roomy interiors; the height has been accentuated by 105mm more than Amaze to offer decent headroom space.

Such a big difference between Amaze and Mobilio has come partly because the extra 20mm helps to reach a massive wheelbase of 185mm.

The Datsun Go+ MPV changes in the wheelbase is not much and the Go hatch’s wheelbase space of 2450mm is used here as well.

Now, no change in SUV wheelbase has helped Nissan to keep the length under tabs and the overall length of the MPV is marked to 3995mm.

The under four-metre-long cars attract a lower excise and this advantage will be passed on to the consumers in terms of aggressive pricing.

The styling of Honda Mobilio above the bumper area is more insistent. The bumpers are sporty and the kinks in the window line makes the MPV look compact despite the massive length; the elongated wheel arches also visually control the perspective of the viewer.

The wheel arches are flared and the MPV features a flowy D pillar that soar over the shoulder line of the MPV.

The interior specifications are not yet revealed and the Brio’s dashboard has likely been taken as it is, in the Mobilio MPV. Speculations say there will be chunks of luggage space available in the MPV even when it is fully occupied.

The Datsun Go+ roof drops down towards the rear in a sporty manner and the strong shoulder line has been carried all the way to the rear of the car.

To further save on costs, Datsun has used the same hatch at the rear as well, with the same tail-lights. The space is less and cabin area seating is placed low while the backrest is pretty short.

Honda’s new MPV will be powered with 1498cc i-DTEC diesel motor, which produces 96.6bhp and the benefit of this engine is that it delivers immediate throttle and whooping torque.

The 2NH that is seen in new Mobilio MPV is present in the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol motor of the current Honda City. The Datsun Go+ will run on the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that will also do duty on the Datsun Go hatchback. There are no diesel variants in-line.

The pricing will be an advantage when it comes to Nissan’s Datsun; the MPV has been cleverly engineered to keep costs down and the price tag is expected to be around Rs. 450,000.

Honda Mobilio on the other hand, won’t be this low-priced as the length is more than four meters; however, the competition will be the same as both the MPVs are going to be rolled out in the Indian market to take on the highly successful Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in the compact MPV space.
