The XA Alpha is the most awaited compact SUV from the country’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki.

This ultimate product from the domestic automobile leader would show its skills at India’s biggest automotive ‘Car’nival – Auto Expo 2014, next month.

The XA Alpha is supposed to come with all the potential capabilities that will enable it to compete with current compact SUV leader, Ford EcoSport. It is reported that this upcoming mini crossover will come powered by an efficient 1.5 Litre diesel mill.

Sources reveal that this diesel power-train is developed solely by Maruti’s R&D team and will not be powered by the regular Fiat’s multijet diesel engine that the company has been using till now.

The company plans it to roll out initially with the diesel power-trains, however, petrol trims are reported to be introduced later.

Volkswagen Taigun is another compact SUV that will be seen competing with Ford EcoSport soon on the domestic shores. Ford EcoSport at present is offered in 1.0 Litre petrol, 1.5 Litre petrol and 1.5 Litre diesel engine options.

Its 1.0 L 3-cylinder EcoBoost petrol in-line is capable to produce peak power of 123.4 bhp at 6000 rpm and top torque of 170 Nm at 1400-4500 rpm, whereas the other high spec 1.5 Litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with the Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) tosses maximum power of 110 bhp at 6300 rpm along with its peak torque of 140 Nm at 4400 rpm.

Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed MT however its 1.5 L high spec petrol engine is offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission too.

Furthermore, the 1.5 Litre 4-pot DV5 diesel engine churns maximum power of 89.9bhp at 3750 rpm and maximum torque of 204Nm at 2000-2750 rpm.
