Top seed Andre Agassi maintained his return to form with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over compatriot Kevin Kim to ease into the quarter-finals of the Los Angeles Open on Thursday.

Playing his first a event since the French Open in May having recovered from a nagging hip injury, Agassi has advanced through the draw with a minimum of fuss, disposing of Frenchman Jean-Rene Lisnard 6-1, 6-0 in his return to action on Tuesday.

"It's hard to hope for much better," the 35-year-old said.

"The first match was pretty much on my terms and today I had to worry about leaving some balls hanging because he was getting pretty aggressive."

In other matches, Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan dumped wild card Paul Goldstein 6-1, 6-4 to improve his record against the American to 2-0.

American qualifier Zack Fleishman, ranked 345 in the world, saw his fairytale run in his first ATP event of the season come to an end with a 6-3, 7-5 loss to Luxembourg's Gilles Muller.

In an all American clash, Robby Ginepri, riding the momentum from his second ATP career title win at the RCA Championships in Indianapolis on Sunday, downed wild card James Blake 6-3, 7-6.
