Govt revises norms for MPs' pay hike; Prez, VP get a raise

The emoluments for President, vice president and governors which were last revised in 2006, is being revised, says Jaitley.

Accordingly, the President will now by paid Rs 5 lakh a month, vice president will get Rs 4 lakh and governors will get Rs 3.5 lakh a month.

Turning his attention to MPs' salaries, which right now they decide for themselves, Jaitley says the government plans to refix their salary, constituency allowance etc. The law will now provide for automatic renewal of MPs renewal every 5 years, indexed to inflation.
