Message: It was sad rather shocking to read the news of Hansie's plane crash. Nobody wanted things to end this way with him. It is true that he brought himself and cricket to shame by succumbing to the call of the fixers and it was least expected out of someone who was almost an icon not only in South Africa but also in almost all the cricket playing countries. I recall how the Indian fans recieved this news. They werenot really surprised to see some of the Indian names appear in the list. But to see Hansie's name there was something that took many by shock. A great batsman and a leader always in control, he yielded to his human side of going for lucrative deals outside the field and thereby ditching the game and other players. But he repented and there is something to note here. The other players who were banned for the same reason never did anything like this. He realised what he did and that brought us to a stage where we could think again whether to give him a second chance. Its too late now. But lets not hate him. Let us remember his contributions. We all commit mistakes, big and small and when we find ourselves in his shoes, we may plead for a second chance. Common, cricket fans, let us not remember him for his mistake, which I admit was not something he could have got away with, but for being the most successful captain modern cricket has seen after Clive Loyd.

Message: Hansie was an excellent leader with emulative traits. I feel that, his involvement in the match - fixing scandal was more done out of ignorance of the act than for the benefits out of it. The initial sense of anger of the public was understandable, but the feelings turned into one of sympathy, when he admitted his guilt. They were willing to forgive the man as they believed that he was not dishonest and the match-fixing thing was just one of those aberrations in an outstanding career. Just because somebody's moral character is unknown does not mean he is a saint. If they turn out to have a sterling character, then well and good, go ahead and praise them, but don't EXPECT it. And don't hand them a sterling character on a platter until they have "earned" it.

Message: I would like to convey my deepest sympathies to the family of Hansie Cronje. I feel Hansie was one of the most, if not the most, admired captain of his time. It was rather unfortunate that he accepted money from the bookies. But let us not forget that even though he did take the money, South Africa's record was impeccable to say the least. It just goes to show that being honest can ruin you at times. Take the Indian cricket team for example, thay are put on a pedestal but look at their performances, look at their commitment - zero. I feel Hansie was made a scapegoat. If he was an Indian, somehow he would havebeen let off the hook. His death was one of the saddest things to happen. he was not given a chance to redeem himself.

Message: HOw Often do you see people rising above the mistakes they make in life and set an example for many people to follow ? To me hansie had such a golden oppurtunity, but GOD seemed to have other plans :( As far as Hasies cricket career is concerned, I was a fan and great admirer of his leadership skills. I thought he was a good player of spin and a decent player of fast bowling. I had always felt that he was more talented than he seemed at times. It took great courage on his part to accept the accusations and face truth and its dire consequences. At the end of the day hansie was a hero in his own right, who led his team to many great victories, may have fallen from grace, due to some moment of weakness, but still fought his way through it.
