Message: There is nothing to deny that Cronje was one of best captains of one of the best teams in the world. It was under his captaincy that SA tasted success and shaped up as a brilliant team. Their fielding & overall commitment was incomparable and they re-defined winning matches by just 'Fielding' & saving runs. But, the match-fixing scandal was too much to take for the public. For one simple reason that they held the team & its captain in very high esteem & awe and this incident shattered that image of the 'gentleman' game. Probably, there were many similar incidents which are still kept under wraps. But, a shame is a shame & making a fool of all the people who sit & watch the game with passion is a sin. Logically , going by rational thinking one should neither forget not forgive, but there is always a human touch everywhere. Well, all of us are humans & all of us err, some small, some humungous - and somewhere the heart tells - 'C'mon , its okay'. I would like to put him ahead of Steve Waugh for simple reason, he encouraged & created world's best team during his time. One must appreciate his courage to come forth (even though later) and admit his wrong doing. Although treated as a black sheep he was one of the many existing even today within Cricketing circle and many of them are scot-free even today. His plan to help the game of cricket by coaching young prospects in the backward areas showed how determined he was to repay back for the wrong-doings.
