The duck recorded by Sourav Ganguly was the third at this ground by a Test captain. The only other captains to record a duck at this venue were: Ajit Wadekar (v England in January 1973) and Englishman Alec Stewart (in February 1993).

This was Ganguly's 8th career duck in 64 matches, which takes him past the tally of Ajit Wadekar's 7 ducks in 37 matches. Ganguly now has maximum ducks by an Indian left-handed batsman in Tests, although another left-hander Dilip Doshi, a tail-end batsman has 14 ducks in 33 matches.

During his knock of 43, Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman in history to aggregate 20,000 runs in both forms of the game in international cricket. Tendulkar who has 8483 runs in Tests and 11544 runs in LOIs now has a combined run aggregate of 20027 runs. In the number two position is Australian Allan Border who has 17698 runs and is more the 2000 runs behind Tendulkar.

Interestingly in the last one-year Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid and Tendulkar have been dismissed "bowled" on six occasions each. Their other colleague in the squad Shiv Sunder Das has also been dismissed in this manner on six occasions.
