The name Raja Mukherji might not ring a bell with most people. He is better known as Rani Mukherji's brother. Five years older to the bubbly exuberant actress who was recently hailed for her performance as Pooja in Kunal Kohli's Mujhse Dosti Karoge.
On Raksha Bandhan, Raja speaks about his younger sister:
My sister means a lot to me. We have shared a close relationship because there are just the two of us.
Actually, when she was born, I was very jealous of her. I thought mum was giving her more attention and ignoring me. One day, I picked her up from her cot to throw her out of the window. But she started bawling so loudly that I dropped her on the bed instead!
Luckily nothing happened to her --- mom and dad came running.
As a kid, Rani was very cranky. It was the easiest thing in the world to make her cry, that I had to make her cry! I used to do everything to irritate her. My parents would always scold me for making her cry. She was always dad's favourite; I was mum's.
We went to the same school Maneckji Cooper in Juhu, suburban Mumbai. At school, too, I used to order her around and make her cry!
She hasn't changed at all after becoming astar. She is the professional when at work. At home, we still fight. That's the fun --- with your own people you are yourself.
Rani hates people lying to her and hates hypocrites. She's extremely friendly and expects everyone to reciprocate. But she's also very emotional and can be very touchy and sentimental.
She loves watching films, loves shopping, clothes, loves rajma chawal and mum's cooking.
We celebrate rakhi with a small puja, exchange gifts and eat what mum has cooked. Rakhi is special because of Rani.
