 Aishwarya Rai
Ash's Hollywood debut in mid-2003
One of India's most beautiful stars, Aishwarya Rai confesses a Hollywood film is just another language

Fakir Chand in Bangalore

Bollywood heartthrob and superstar Aishwarya Rai has declared that she will make her debut in Hollywood movies some time in the middle of 2003.

Rai told rediff.com in Bangalore on Friday, December 6, that she has already been approached by a number of Hollywood directors and producers for acting in English films during her recent visit to the US. "An announcement about my entry into Hollywood films will be made soon by the agency that is tying up my films in Hollywood. They are working out the details."

"During my visit to the US in October, I have collected some scripts for selection. They wanted me to start shooting from January. But my shooting schedule in Bollywood does not permit me to leave India till another six months," Rai stated.

Rai hastened to clarify that acting in English films would be no different from those she has been doing in Hindi and other Indian language films. "The offer to work in a English movie is a great opportunity and a recognition for Indian talent by the Hollywood industry. For me it is just a matter of working in another language," Rai affirmed.

Rai, however, declined to give details on the name of the proposed Hollywood film she would be acting, nor about the director, producer, and the distrbution company. She also recalled the accolades she won at the Cannes Film Festival early this year for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas, along with costars Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan.

"The international recognition and the rave reviews the film generated are a tribute to the Indian style of film acting," Rai claimed.

Rai also disclosed that her next film Dil Ka Rishta will be released in January. Directed by her brother Aditya Rai and scripted by her mother, the film revolves around middle class family problems, with many courtroom scenes.

"I am also acting in a Bengali film, besides a couple of Hindi films. Though I have offers from other south Indian directors to act in Kannada and Telugu films, my tight schedule does not permit me to sign up more than one or two films at a time," Rai affirmed. It may be recalled that she first acted in Mani Ratnam's Iruvar with Mohanlal, and then acted in Rajeev Menon's Kandukondain Kandukondain.
