Import of crude to continue through STEs: Maran

EXIM
POLICY

Petrol and diesel will continue to be imported through state trading enterprises until the petroleum ministry seeks a change in the wake of the dismantling of the administered pricing mechanism from April 1, Commerce and Industry Ministry Murasoli Maran said on Sunday.

Industry and Commerce Minister Murasoli MaranSince World Trade Organisation rules permit imports or exports of sensitive items through such enterprises, "We are retaining STEs for certain sensitive items, Maran told reporters after unveiling the Export-Import Policy for 2002-07."

However, his ministry would modify the procedure if the petroleum ministry sought a change in view of the changed circumstances, Maran said.

On being informed that the petroleum ministry had already issued a notification in this regard, Maran said his ministry would do the needful on receipt of it.
