Call them the byproducts of a 17-year-old ethnic war.

In makeshift camps across Tamil Nadu, they marry, breed and die in a home that is not home.

The influx from Sri Lanka started in 1983. Communal riots began tearing the island nation apart. Caught between the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and government forces, thousands of Tamils had no option but flee.

That conflict still rages. And the migrants add to the 28 million refugees that India currently shelters.

Abandoned schools, poultry farms, warehouses and even cremation grounds have now been turned into camps for the refugees.
