Speculation about Indian role to end Lanka crisis deniedP Mohan Das in Colombo The Indian high commission today rejected the speculative reports appearing in the Sri Lankan media that High Commissioner Shivshanker Menon's departure to New Delhi after meeting Buddhist clergy has something to do with the current crisis in Sri Lanka. A spokesman of the commission dubbed the reports as merely ''kite-flying'' and explained that Menon left for New Delhi on Sunday on a 'routine visit' and there was no need to attach any significance to it. He also said National Sangha Council president Maduluwawe Sobitha Nayaka Thera had a meeting with the high commissioner on last Saturday which was at the initiative of Thera. As far as the ethnic problem was concerned, the spokesman clarified that India was of the view that Sri Lanka should settle the issue in the framework of its Constitution. ''There is no change in India's stand,'' he added. UNI
